Founded in 1991, Tri-Star Design has been providing product design services to the high technology communities world wide. With our offices located in New England, our design staff consists of engineers with diverse backgrounds who hail from some of the best research and development facilities in the country.

Randall J. McDonald

President and CEO

Randall is President and CEO of Tri-Star Design, Inc. and has been instrumental in growing the business from its inception in 1991 to its present status. Randall oversees the strategic direction of the Massachusetts-based electronic product development company and continues to play a major role in defining and enforcing design and manufacturing quality processes at Tri-Star Design. He has over 30 years’ experience designing electronic products including products in data communications, medical device and robotics. Randall graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and has provided consulting services to Fortune 500 and start-up companies with design services ranging from product architecture, digital and analog board design, FPGA development and high-speed board design.

Jim Clarke

Senior Project Manager

As a Senior Project Manager for Tri-Star Design Jim is responsible to ensure projects reach their business objectives, utilizing the required functional engineering disciplines, and are executed within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters. These are accomplished by providing effective communication within the technical team, client and contract manufacturers as well as facilitating the management of collaboration tools, weekly status meetings, project schedule management and budget tracking. Prior to joining Tri-Star Designs he had worked as a Project Manager at Teradyne where he managed many complex and multi-disciplinary Product Development efforts for interna and external customers. He has many years of experience in project lead and engineering management and brings an excellent understanding of the product development life cycle.

Mike Budnick

Senior Project Manager

As a Senior Project Manager for Tri-Star, Mike brings extensive expertise in establishing and managing programs and projects from concept through completion. Typical assignments included product development, business tools and process improvement initiatives. Recognized within the organization as a project management and process subject matter expert and often consulted for best practices and to help find solutions for challenging product development and process issues. Prior to joining Tri-Star Design, Mike spent decades at Waters Corporation managing many multi-disciplinary projects, highly complex in nature with tight release schedules and budget. He brings many years of experience to the team in driving the team in support of the full product development cycle. Mike holds an MBA from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island and a BSEE from Central New England College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
